Exuma Island, The Bahamas

1 week on Exuma Island

The Bahamas covers a vast amount of territory, with around 700 islands and several thousand smaller cays, it spans for 700+ miles in the Caribbean. The Bahamas were originally inhabited by native Lucayan people, who traveled up through the Caribbean island chain from South America. Sadly, these people were decimated by the arrival of the Europeans after Columbus landed on the island of San Salvador, and the Europeans made the bahamas home as part of their slave trade. The Bahamas remained a haven for pirates, and under British rule for several hundred years before finally becoming a fully independent nation in only 1973. This week we are visiting Exuma Island, surrounded by its crystal clear turquoise water and white powdery sand beaches, it is a great place to escape and relax. Make sure you set your expectations for island time though, as things move slow around here!
